Here we are at the end of 2024.

Somehow things feel even more chaotic and scary than they did at the start of the year.

I was speaking to someone who in the past, got very agitated about world events.  With the presidential results in November in the US, I said to them – you really need to mind yourself.

And I think that this is so true for everyone.

The world can feel terrifying.

If we keep exposing ourselves to everything that is going on, we may end up damaging our own mental health.  And that is not going to help anyone.

Keep yourself informed as much as you need to and limit the amount of time you are spending watching the news, social media etc.

How to mind yourself:

Apart from tapping, I have a list of things that bring me back to my heart centre, keep me grounded and allow me to continue the work I do.

Swimming, walking, being out in nature, meditation and connecting with a power greater than myself – and I know I can always do more of all of this.  It’s all about self-love and self-care, and there is no such thing as too much self-care and self-love in my book.

And for those of us who have experienced loss and disappointment over the last year or so, allow yourself to be with it; live the truth of it, even if it feels uncomfortable.  By acknowledging and being present to whatever is going on, it allows us to move through and past the emotion.

In terms of minding yourself, one simple question you can keep asking yourself, is that with any activity, is this making me feel better or worse?  It really is that easy.

Doom scrolling – nah – that’s definitely not making me feel better.
Committing to go somewhere when my batteries are completely empty – nope, that’s not going to do me any good whatsoever.

Of course, with the season that is in it, you may have more commitments than you would wish.  Try to make sure that you are saying yes to yourself more, and getting to fill up your batteries, and to get some balance there.
